DESCRIPTION
Originally designed in 1908 to house St. Agatha's Convent and Music Conservatory, this building served at its peak 1,100 students and housed nuns on the upper floors. Among the copper-corniced structure's distinguishing features were a rare exterior, curving double staircase leading to the main entrance and a sixth-floor loggia offering open-air recreation space for the sisters.. After St. Agatha's Conservatory closed in 1962, the building housed offices as well as classroom and administrative facilities for the McNally School of Music. In 2017, Rebound purchased this National Historic Landmark property and set about restoring the structure to its original glory.
The development sought to bring to the forefront the history of the original convent and adapt its space into an upscale urban boutique hotel. Listed on the National Registry of Historic Places, the finished design preserved the original character of building with additions of a public bar and outdoor patio, dining and event space, fitness, and meeting spaces. Returning to the finished building were works of art painted by its original resident nuns, carefully retrieved and preserved during demolition phase.
